any ideas?

2007_08_23_006

Derek got these little whiskey samplers last year for Christmas. They're adorable, just about 4" high. I couldn't bring myself to throw them away, but I can't think of what to use them for. The mouth is really narrow, so it won't hold any of my sewing things. (Except needles, which is silly!) Do you think there's anything I can use them for, or should I just toss them?

fabric indulgence

Remember that I told you Derek's a great guy? Here's some fabric proof. When shim+sons had her second sale for books and fabric, I asked him to keep an eye on things. Not only did he pick out fabulous books, he also snagged some wonderful wonderful fabric for me. How sweet! I want to use them, but then again they're so adorable I just want to stare at them. I would love a skirt, but there's not enough. I was thinking they'd be great in patchwork, or maybe just as applique on a shirt or skirt. Time will tell!

I also have the teddy fabric in a white colorway. It's a gauzy material, so it has a great texture. Ahh--look at the cute doggy pull toy!

obsession

When I like something, I tend to become a tad obsessive. For crafting, that means: get it now, do it immediately, love it for a few weeks, then move on. In life this also carries over. Mostly for shoes, jewelry, and bathing suits.

Want proof? I have an entire drawer devoted to bathing suits. This pictures shows what is left; aka these stay in Columbus, and I have a million right now in Florida. Why? The patterns, the styles? I don't know. I do know that these are at least all a year old, and I do only buy them on sale. Very good sales for that matter. And it's at least not a compulsive buy. I get them and USE them. Each and every one, at least at some point. This summer though with the hives, I've only visited our apartment pool 3 times. So right now, I am loving the sun, the sand, and the suits!

And, because we've been Cosmo-less on this blog for a few days, here's a picture. This is on our apartment balcony. He loves it out there! In the mornings, the first thing I do is open up those blinds, and no matter where he is he runs over, trying to get me to let him out there. Of course I usually do, unless it's an icky day. He loves peering under like that. We have a lake right there, and that's really all his line of site allows him to see. If there are geese, he'll watch those, if not, I really don't know what he looks at!

beach reading

Right now, I am probably at the beach or pool. And I am probably looking through one of these books. The one on top is from Superbuzzy, but the rest of from our great library in Columbus.

The New Crewel book is really good. So good I might have to buy myself a copy. It's got really wonderfuly photographs of the projects, which are all great as well. All the more to practice with!

couldn't resist fabric

So I said I wasn't buying more fabric. But I'm making a lot of skirts for myself, and haven't bought clothes in quite sometime. Plus, I've been working extra hours, so I decided to treat myself. I got these all from Superbuzzy, and love them all! The orange puppy patchwork is 2 yds, and might become a sheath dress. The elephant fabric is only 1/2 yd (kind of expensive!), but might become a bag. And the vintage looking puppies/kitties....my absolute favorite! I think I bought 1 1/2yds, which was all that was left. It would look so cute as a gathered skirt, but I might not have enough. Isn't it adorable though?

embroidery inspiration

2007_08_22_018

I've been wanting to get into embroidery for awhile now. I need a lot of practice though! My mom brought me back this apron from her trip to Florida (it's from Anthropologie), and I just love the embroidery! It really motivates me to keep working on my stitches!

bound

I am officially on vacation today! That means this post was created earlier, and just set to publish today. I don't think I'll have access to the internet in Florida, so all future posts for awhile may be pre-published. If you comment or e-mail, and I don't respond, I'm sorry! I'll respond when I'm back in town.

I finished up my second lap quilt. All I had to do was hand sew the binding on. I think I love this one even more than my first! The colors, the rick rack...plus the batting is so soft and light. Right now, Cosmo and I are probably in the passenger seat of my car, cuddled with this blanket!

puppy love

I mentioned a few posts back that I wanted to make a puppy gift for a woman I work with. Her husky Cheyenne has to have surgery this Monday, and I won't be there. She's really nervous, so I thought a fun surprise might cheer her up. I decided to make a puppy pillow for Cheyenne. I bought a pillow form, but I decided it was too small, so I made my own huge form, and then a cover. While I was making it, Cosmo decided he liked it! (Don't worry, he got his own later that night).

I brought it to work on Tuesday, and my oh my did she love it! She cried! In a good way. She said Cheyenne would love it. She showed it to everyone that came by, and sent her husband pictures from her phone. I know how sad it was when Cosmo had to have surgery, so I'm glad this made her so happy.

The fabric is so cute. The print with the dogs says "Big dogs, small dogs, I love all dogs". And I usually don't like cheesy fabric like that!

Some twill tape helps to keep the pillow closed since it's so large.

And here's Cosmo the pillow-tester.

vacation preparation

We're leaving for vacation in a few days, so what do I do to "get ready"? Sew! I needed something to house all of these:

And I also wanted to practice some embroidery. I made this:

Now I won't forget what's inside!

derek is a smart man

I was making some new hang tags with transfers onto some cute fabric. Derek came to see, so I asked if he wanted me to transfer something onto one of his shirts. He said no, but then he told me I should transfer my blog logo onto one that he'd wear around.

DUH! I'm going to help out at that shop, Simple Expressions tomorrow, and what better thing to wear than a Lindsey Marcella shirt! So I whipped together a little logo, found an old white tank, and...

The color looks better in person, but I did yellow it a little with too much ironing. It's on there though! So hopefully I'll get a little shameless self-promoting in tomorrow.
